Course Overview: This non-credit, 9-week course is designed for graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and beginning faculty with limited formal background in education. This advanced course explores cutting-edge teaching practices and introduces additional frameworks, reflective teaching practices, and student engagement strategies. The course focuses on deeper, research-driven applications of pedagogy and andragogy, encouraging participants to refine their teaching strategies and incorporate reflective continuous improvement approaches.Prerequisite Knowledge: Participants are expected to have completed the CIRTL Introduction to Teaching Learning Community (or similar programming) covering foundational topics such as learning principles, learning objectives, assessment, active learning, inclusive teaching, and lesson planning. Participants may also enroll with the approval of the CIRTL team if they can demonstrate that the prerequisite has been met through other programming.
Course Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will: 1. Deepen their understanding of research-based teaching methods. 2. Critically analyze and apply advanced instructional strategies. 3. Design and implement strategies for differentiated instruction. 4. Integrate reflective teaching practices and engage in peer learning communities. 5. Innovate in their teaching by incorporating emerging trends and technologies in education.Course Meeting Times: Wednesdays, 3:00 to 4:00 pm CST, via Zoom Meeting dates: January 28, February 4, February 11, February 18, February 25, March 4, March 18, March 25, and April 1CIRTL Practitioner Certificate: Participants who engage in at least 7 of 9 sessions and successfully complete all course activities will earn the Practitioner Level CIRTL Certificate awarded at the Graduate and Professional School Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 27, 2026 and a digital badge.
